Dang 43 degrees huh? sounds really cold specially when riding bikes through the wind! ahah thats good that you got to spend time with the family. Be thankful for that cause a lot of the people in the world cant travel even one hour to visit family cause they dont have enough money!... Thats definitely a miracle that dad got to eat with you on a call day. Usualy we dont see him on those days for sure.

You can tell Aaron to wait and see cuase im still doin my exercise out here!!! haha tell rino no worries im going to be just fine. I cant wait to hang out with my lil bro rino again! tell rae i say Hey wats up Chavala!! telll jordan that he truly is a stud and i really respect him a lot cause he works so hard with his musical abilities and doesnt give up on that great talent he has.

Welll, the language is coming along a lot better today. I really feel that as i open my mouth and speak and not worry about messing up, i speak and understand a lot better. So yesterday and this morning i was in a place called san ramon with elder gomez. Its a pretty cool little town not a lot of people in it. We went up the highway a little ways and taught this older man and his daughter who are investigators- The older man was kinda stubborn and kept saying how can i know which church is true there are so many. Elder gomez said ok my companion is going to explain how. I used james 1:5 and explained that through prayer and the power of the spirit we can know all things. I feel that when we teach to have the spirit and really want to help the people, im able to talk and understand 10x better. When i taught yesterday the words and verbs were coming to me a lot more naturally than normal and i was able to understand really well. I really believe in the gift of tongues now that i have seen it in action. Its a true principle of the church that we are so lucky to be a part of. So We held a little meeting and had the kids watch the testaments and restauration and afterwards we bore our testimonies to them. There were about 20 25 people. It was great to share my testimony at the moment cause the movie really set the tone and spirit in the room and then i was able to start off of that. This morning we went to shower at the chapel. It was pretty cool. My first time showering from a hole in the wall. about 2 minutes into my shower the water pressure went way way down and i had to fill the water in my hands and splash it on me haha it was funny.

Well if there is any advice for Aaron and Jordan it is this. Go on Splits with the missionaries. At first it might be a little scary but it is the best way for you to prepare for this great work. A lot of the members here go on splits with us and those that are 16 17 and 18 have all gone on splits. They are really strong in the spirit of missionary work and have already learned how to teach the gospel. I really wish i had done it more. Seriously find time to go on splits!!!!

Well not much else here. Our changes are on wednesday. My companion talked with one of the assistants to the president and supposedly either i or him are getting changed. I kinda hope not becusae things are looking much better with him right now. We have a lot of references beacuse our members brought a bunch of people to church on sunday and both him and i are excited to go and teach more people. Im excited cause we are going to be working harder than wat we were before. But o well if i get changed or he does ok, Lords knows best.

WElllll, I love you all so much. Im so greatful we can live together forever. Im so glad for mom and dad; your faithfulness and apreciation for each other is amazing. Love you all love jonnnnny boy

Ok first thing first. Thursday lets do a Skype session instead of a phone call! The president of our branch offered for me to use his computer and skype you guys so i think thatll be great. Same time and everything just on the internet and we can talk and see each other. Just make sure you have dads computer all set up and ready to go. If it doesnt work ill just go up to the call center place and call you guys. So thursday at 1 my time ill skype you if that is ok. Can you send me the username of your skype so i can look it up easier?

Well for emails we just go to a cyber cafe in town. There are tons of them in every city an you just go use a computer for an hour and pay wehn your done. Its pretty cool and really simple. Well i think that you can send me pictures through myldsmailnet and i can see them. I think we werent allow to view pictures and stuff wile at the mtc but now im pretty sure that you can send pictures to me as a link and i can upload them and see them. We arent allowed to go on other websites other than myldsmailnet so i cant go on the blog site you made or another site that you make.

Im feeling way way better thanks ! I actually get hungry and stuff again like a normal missionary lol. I still am a little bit weak and tired at the end of the day but im doing really well. Last week we wnet to managua and we were there for 4 days. I spent 3 days in the Hospital recovering. I had an infection called Dengue. You get it from misquitos. Usually its only a couple of days but i had a bad case of it and it lasted longer than usual. No worries though im doing great now. My only struggle now is the Language. I feel like im not learning anything and im a little discouraged from it but im still working hard and serving the Lord.

Well on Friday everything will be the same. Well be out working, teaching lessons, contacting, doing the normal missionary stuff. On Wednesday we have a big christmas activity with our branch and President Fraatz is going to come too with his family. Im pretty excited it should be way fun for sure. Thursday We talk!! Cant wait till then. Love you all no worries here

More Beautiful Scenery

Jon on Preparation Day

First Baptism

Sounds like things are looking up back home huh? Aaron is doing better which is great for him and you. Ryan is happy with his wieght Rachel is the spotlight of the show like always huh and Jordan is enjoying band this season. Tell everyone Good Job from me lol.

So I did recieve the excercise booklet from Grandma last week. I like it alot for sure. We dont do our own laundry, Hna Melba does it. She is our lunch appointment everyday and dinner 2x a week. SHe is the esposa of the Branch Pres. They are really sweet and take good care of me. Fooods. Well, I have eaten a lot of things here. We eat a ton of chicken here. All the time. Every once in a while we'll have carne but that's not super often. Every meal has rice, period. lol another part of the meal is banana. Either PLatano (fried banana) or banana chips they are both pretty good. Sometimes we get a side of Potatoes, Pipians(i dunno what those are) this other stuff that is purple and its a starch much like potatoes, green banana, Some times a soup. Sometimes we have this food that is a fried tortilla with a thick cheese inside (quajada) The people love quajada. I like it but my stomach can't handle a lot of cheese/dairy. The drinks are all really good except one that I'm adjusting to. Avena. It is water and oatmeal. Sometimes its really sweet and I can handle it other times its bland and I just take it like a man. The weird part is taht you drink the oatmeal too. Feels wierd sometimes lol. . .. umm I can't think of any more things but ya theyre all pretty good. There hasn't been anything that I haven't like so far besides the PLatano ( sometimes it doesnt taste good)

The language is coming but is a bit slower right now. I have a new compañero and he is also from Guatemala. He doesnt speak english as well as Elder Milian did. He speaks way way fast spanish and never realy slows down so it is hard sometimes. He has 22 months so he is almost done.

Well last thing. Ive been pretty sick for like a week now and I'm taking some antibiotics and acemetophin or what ever taht stuff is. Ive had a low fever. Don't worry though I'm fine and I'm resting a lot. Just pray for me if you would. Oh and don't call the mission home it's really not that bad. I've been talking to the Mission nurse and I should be fine soon.

Love you all mucho

Hey there! Well all is going well here. Things are pretty crazy right now though. Our zone has had a bunch of Emergency Changes. My compa left me this afternoon and im getting a new one tonight! im kinda excited but a bit nervous too because i have to run the show in Jinotega and show my senior compa around the town. The problem is i hardly know the place!! haha so weeel see how it goes.

Last night we got to see the devotional. We had a group of about 30 people watching it on a computer screen hahah lol. It was is spanish so it was way hard for me to know what was being said and the computter was lagging really bad half the time so that didnt help at all.

Well we had another baptism this weekend. It went well. I had to repeat the words 3x but oh well it was still goood. We were supposed to have two but the other girl left that mornin and went to some of her family in the mountains. We think she wasnt quite ready and her mom gave us permission but we think it was her and her mom that didnt really want to do the baptizm. But o welll

So Saturday we started our fast. I fasted to be able to understand spanish better. I really have already seen tremendous results because of it. On Sunday i was talking with one of the little kids and we had a full conversation and i had no troube understanding him and replying also. Im really greatfull for the Lord and his tender mercies to me. Hope it continues to go well!

That is crazy that mattt is already going home. I hope time does go that fast for me. I dont wanna look back and wish i had more time lol. YA the weather here is nice but i sweat like i never have in my life. You should see the collar on my shirt after only 1 day lol. Well hey if you send me another package next time you should send mints instead of gum becasue we arent supposed to chew gum in public but we can have mints!! lol Welll i hope all is going well with the family and school and band and such. Keep your head up with aaron. HEs a good kid just needs to figure things out in his own time.

WEll... IM thinking the best time for me to call would be the 26th at about 1 my time so 11 your time ?? that would be good so i can eat lunch and then go and call ya. Im not sure how the you calling me thing works so i will just call you i think. We will keep in touch with the email but lets plan on that day and time and me calling you for now.

Well. g2g love you all super duper mucho!!

Yep yep everything is good here. I've seen Jimmy a few times and its pretty fun with all the missionaries. They're all great. Last week we had our first Pday and I have some sweet pictures for ya'll to look at. haha o and last week I forgot to tell you one thing. TRaffic here is crazy!!!!!! the people drive like maniacs! here in Jinotega there are no stoplights only stop signs. Cars pass eachother on tiny narrow streets and motorcycles drive crazy!(tons of moto´s cause they are cheap)

This past weekend was awesome! We had two baptisms and I did one of them! It was cool doing it in spanish. The great thing was that both of them were kinda suprises for us. The lttle old man (viejito) Sebastian was supposed to leave for the mountains to work and cut coffee but he ended up staying for one more week to have a doctors appointment. We were able to baptise him with that little extra time! We found out that he isn't a pair (pareja) with the lady we thought was his wife. That means we didn't have to get him married before the baptism and all that!

The other baptism was a mujer named Damaris. Two weeks ago we had commited her to baptism and the interview was made and all was set to go. We filled the font and everything and then the night before she had a lot of doubts and didn't want to be baptized. We gave her some time to think about it and we went back last Thursday and talked with her. That morning I had been thinking about her and how we could help her. When we went to her house my companion had me do the lesson and share the scriptures I had in mind. It was pretty suprising to me that he did that but it went super super well. The spirit was there and after I talked with her Elder Millian asked her what she thought she needed to do next. She replied voy a bautizarme (I go to baptize myself). I was shocked because I really didn't say very much to her but the spirit carried the message to her heart 1ne 31:1 (i think lol) I really do have a testimony that the spirit will bring to mouth the things you need to say in the very moment it is needed, and that the spirit uses the knowledge that you have from studying during personal and companion study. The same day those things are brought to mind. I know this work is the work of the Lord and there is no doubt in my mind of the great importance of it in His eyes.

Well, hope all is well up there! PS we need to set up a day and a time for our phone call this month! When is good for yall?? When are the kids all out of school and dad off work so we can call? I can call you or I can give you a number and you can call me, its up to you. Well ttyl. Love you all!!!!

PS nevermind on the pictures this comp is slow. Ill try next weeek. Love ya

Here's the latest from Jon:

Hey hey all is great here in Nicaragua!!! I love it so far! WEll first things after the flight we went through some security and stuff and it was hard cause no one speaks english lol. We met the Mission President Fraatz and his wife. Then we hoped in the car and the took us to a hotel to stay the night. They bought us dinner but we didnt have cubiertos so we ate with our hands lol. The food here is way way super good! Rice and beans nearly every meal lol. Usually chicken too but if not then its scrambled eggs and ham. the drinks are way great too. I dont really know any of the names of plates or anything yet cuase the language is hard! ¨this aint the language they taught me at the mtc¨ !! lol its coming though. For the most part i am able to understand people but replying to them is difficult. They dont pronounce their s here so it makes it hard to hear. (try talking in eng without an s) well the country is way beautiful! everythings is suepr green and awesome mountains and hills. Anyways so the country is super pretty. Its just like the movies too. All the house are super smashed together and so small! im a tall person here lol. all the house are built into the sides of the hills all piled on top of eachother like on the hulk haha. Lets see. Our casa. It is way way small in the bathroom there is no room the toilet is like 7 inches away from the opposite wall which makes it hard to use lol. The shower is way dirty and the water is so so sosoosososo cold!!! lol but it wakes ya up in la mañana. The floors are so dirty you have to have at least socks on. there are always little bugs in our house as with every house. We have these tiny lil bugs kinda look like ants but i dunno. At first i would sweep em off my bed but now i dont really care haha. i sleep on my towel and sweatshirt as my pillow. Its pretty much always hot so no need for much covers. Its way humid and i sweat all day long but its worth it for sure. Im in a smaller town in the mountains called Jinotega. Its way cool up here temperature wise. im gettin a pretty good tan alredy. Well its only a branch up here but we are hoping to become a ward pronto. the members are way way way nice and very humble. A lto of them will be traveling to the temple this week to do endowments that is way awesome for sure. The branch presidents wife coooks our lunch and dinner most days and then on Sunday and one other day of the week we walk up the highway a bit for the meal with a member. and we eat like one or two meals a week at another members house. its grand. I love the food here. we only eat luch and dinner everyday lol so usually im way hungry but my body and stomach are learning it.
So i gues your package is already here. Ill get it tommorw at our district meeting. Im pretty excited to open it!
Ya Jonny Roberts still works at the Kopper kettle? hmm ok ok and ya i heard about zack and amanda lol. The apartment sent me a letter at the mtc and chris told me that they are practically engaged lol but i dunno. so you got rid of the dog in two months huh? lol well ok ok.
Well Ryan and Rachel great job on your drawings Love ya!

Hey mom and Family and Friends!

Gooooood news: We got our flight plans last night!!! I'm so super stoked! we leave here at 6 am next monday. Our flight to Atlanta is at 940. Then we have a 2 or so hour layover. ill be in that airport at like 3 or 330 Atlanta time. So ill call you then and ill probably call while at the airport here too. then we fly straight to Managua and arrive there at 9 something. Its gonna be so great!

Well, just to let you know, I'm sick right now. I've been sick for about two weeks. It started as a cold. then it went away. then last Friday i got a bad cough. Now I'm on antibiotics, benadryl and an inhaler. So hopefully I'll be better soon!

Well sounds like aaron and ryan are having a lot of fun and not fighting as much as they used to (ya?) that is good that they are exercising. Exercise keeps you mentally stable as much as physically.
Mom you gotta stop having those senior moments. Its not good for you!! lol .. i really hope your leg starts getting better. I wonder if there is some kind of surgery you could even do? no se.
well everything is going well here. Just got done with the temple. It was good and its our last time going for 2 years!

Well we get another new district tomorrow night 6 elders 4 sisters. We are in charge of their orientation and teaching them about the MTC. pretty crazy. We will have 9 sisters in our zone. President Morton thinks that is the most we've ever had at once.

Well, can't wait to get that package .. well, love you all

Love you rae rae ry ry air air and jor jor

Hola, Well how is it all going over there? hopefully your getting over your sicknesses. I just got finished with my cold and cough so im feeling great now! Well, two of the Elders that are from the two older districts that have already left our zone are still here. Elder jones becuase he had surgery on his foot and Elder Powell because he doesnt have his visa until the 14th so they are staying with our district. They are staying in the two beds that we had open which is perfectly fine with me. It is just wierd having 2 more companions again. Especially in these small rooms and with all the junk we all have it gets pretty tight. Well, we get our flight plans this week! im pretty excited and just a tiny bit nervous too. I talked to a guy who served in Nicaragua last week but we ddint have a lot of time to talk. He just said that we are going to love it there. I know we will love it and we are working hard to be ready for the people we are going to meeet there. Im ready.

Hey momma. How are you today? hope things are going well.
Well sounds like Jordan is preping for some serious stuff comin up for him. That is great that he is getting those apps in. It's even greater that those boys got together and sang that sound. What a powerful message it contains. (Jordan sang with the Priests on Sunday, Bring the World His Truth). I love singing it here cause they change the words for us. Good Job on the band comp Jordan. (Marching Band came in 1st place in their division on Saturday). They have a new director right? that is good for them.

Well, being Zone leader isnt all that hard. We just have to make sure we go to all the meetings and report to the branch president. And be good examples to the rest of the Zone. I like it but i dont feel way different or anything right now. Our Zone is so awesome. We are really unified and really love everyone here. Its great. There arent any fights or i hate yous that need to be fixed its really awesome.

Well, I cant wait to see Spencer Harrison. Hopefully we will have the same meal time or something so I can find him. I still haven't seen Elder Richey. . . I can't remember what he looks like. I just look for the Tag lol.

Well let Aaron Ryan Jordan and Rae know that I love them. They are such wonderful siblings and I really am blessed to be their brother. Have fun with Aunt Kate and all those little goobers on halloween. They sent me some sweet coloring pictures this past week. So did Emma and the Coombs. Love you all,

Hey hey,

First off, you are going to a BYU game with out me!!! lol well i guess the car you'll be getting me ( a infiniti tlx) will make up for it :) chiste chiste... well i hope you have fun this weekend ! drive safe down there. Just to let you know we are able to hear the games from here.. it sucks lol....
Well my stomach is doing really great actually. they have 2% which is great and the chocolate milk is awesome! lol it makes this place worth it. .. lol jkk . Well my neck and my back are doing really great too. It is such a blessing from the Lord. I know he is providing me with this good health and I am working my hardest to pay him back.

That night when sister Wilmuth came over to our house to do the interview thing with me she told me that story about Craig. I thought it was definitely a great story; the man was truly inspired and im greatful he listened. (See below for story) Well can you do me a favor and send me Jimmy's email address? and blakes? that would be awesome. Oh and can you send this to grandma richey:

Hey Grandma and Grandpa! Thank you for coming and seeing all the family before I left. It was great to be with you again. Thanks for all of your support and all the encouragement you have given me. I love you!
Love,
Elder Jonathan Thorpe

Everything is going good here. Im finally running out of the Candy that Tommy sent me! lol its a good thing though. . well Edler Francis and I have been teaching this one teacher as "Drew." He is a man in his thirties with 2 daughters and his wife. He used to go to church when he was younger and knows a few things. He just lost his job and is really unsettled right now. We have been practicing a ton and learning how to help him. We are learning to teach to their needs and ask questions that will get the investigator to think about how each lesson effects them and how they can apply it to their lives. Its been great and he has been a great help to us.. . g2g tty again later today.

Hello Jon,

Yesterday was a good day. We had a great sacrament meeting (fast and testimony). Sister Wilmuth bore her testimony about Craig and an experience he had in Louisiana. He was very discouraged about the work there. While at the temple, he met a man in the celestial room that was a convert of four years. He told his story to Craig which was that he didn't want to listen to the lessons for many years. Basically he was giving Craig support to keep going and keep trying. The man actually called Sister Wilmuth and explained to her that he was traveling from Ohio to Florida and had the strong impression to go to the New Orleans temple. He did and that's when he needed to meet Craig. Great story.

Well to start off, I really enjoyed conference! It was so good. I was able to stay awake the whole time which was definitely worth it!. I love hearing from the General Authorities like Elder Holland and President Eyring. Elder Hollands testimony of the BOM was great and Pres. Eyrings talk during the priesthood session was great. Still no announcment for the Nica temple but thats ok.

So how is it going in Seattle ? hope you are having a fun "break" from the family. How is the dog? warming up to you all yet or not so much? Rachel made it seem like the dog is obeying her already!

Well hopefully you can get Jordan and Drake to room together at the Y! that would be pretty sweet for them. They used to be pretty good friends I remember that for sure. The RC is going great. We go as a district once a week and EF and I try to go once more during the week. It is a really nice break from studying and we get to see how some real people ask real questions and then answer them. We feel like we are actually doing missionary work lol.

well you can send this to my friends if you want to:

Hey ya'll! sorry I dont have time to write personally! here is how its going. The spanish is coming along very well. We are going a little slower than I would like but a lot of it is personal. If you wanna leave here speaking fluently it is your job not the teachers lol. So it is going well and I am able to help my compainon alot. My two other roomates left for the Madrid MTC this morning so it is only Elder Francis and I in our room now. It is kinda nice but at they same time its kinda lonely lol. It is a lot of fun here. Everyone has a great attitude and has so much fun. Gym time is awesome cause we play bball vball and 4square! hahah. The worst part though is the food. It gets repetitive lol but the Chocolate Milk is amazing!!! Im really enyjoying my time here but I am so excited to go into the field. Nicaragua is going to be awesome as long as the volcanoes dont blow up haha. Well g2g. Love you all so much. Thanks for your support.

Love Elder Jonathan Thorpe

P.S. I'll write you personally if you write me a letter through the mail!
