hey hey family!! all is going really well here!

We did have the opportunity to baptize this wweekend and we completed
a family in the church. The man that we baptized is the husband of an
inactive that we just reactivated by teaching him. Its great! Ill
send you a picture. Even more great is that not only did he hget
baptized but also brought a whole family that is their neighbors to
his baptizm. So now we are going to work with that family also.

Well here they really dont celebrate halloween. Actually there were
even rallys and people with signs against halloweeen becuase its
satanic and stuff like that. Tommorw they celebrate the day of the
dead here so its a free day for everone.

Wow its pretty exciting to hear that aarons drving and that he is a
lot more calm than you thought. If he understands the seriousness of
driving hell do just fine. Glad to hear that hheys obeying a bit
more.
Ummmm. in the package i just need that stuff. The shirts are size 15
and 1/2. also it wouldb e great if you could send me twizlerss that
are filled with gushyness.. theyre great! and of course watever stuff
you want to send ill receive it.

Wow thats great for dawn and richard. Tell them congradulations!

Well everything is going just great here. As ive said now we are
reallly really focused on baptizing families more than anything so
that they can prepare to be sealed in the temple for time and
eternity. President has made us realize that offering the gospel to
families should be our main focus. Ive now put a goal to baptize
families in my mission and i shure am going to fight to achieve it!.
. .

I hope all goes really well this week and that all is safe. I love
you all super much.
Tell grandpa richey that i got his letter and thank him for it! hope
hes doing fantastic in the rehab.

Jonny boy
ell hey ehy how is it going?

Everythings going well here. Ive been in this zone for 3 months and
now at the begining of dicember it will be 4 and a half. We are doing
alright here. We only have 5 baptisms in the whole month and we are 9
companionships. I still havent baptized this month but we are going
to complete a family this saturday (weve reactivated the wife and we
are going to baptize the husband.) Im pretty dang excited for this
baptism cuase the husband was really prepared bythe lord beforehand!
hes a great guy and understands and lives all the commandoments. We
announced his baptizm in the church yesterday (that ususally dosnt
happen very often here in Nicaragua). So ya we are pretty excited for
this Saturday.

The families we are teaching are progressing a bit but a lot slower
than we would like. They are really receptive but habvent taken the
iniciative to go to church. One of the fathers drinks every saturday
night and then they dont go to chirch on sunday morning. The other
family is evangelica but they dont go to their church at all. The
husband has a ahrder time acepting the book of mormon as a legitable
book of scripture.

Wow i cant believe that rae is acutally going to be out of the
pirmary,. Thats pretty cool cause i also was a bit anxious to get out
haha. But ya great for her!. . Well at times a feel that same thing
mom like i dont have the motivation to work but i always go out to
work cuase its wat i have to do. I just try to remember that the lord
will provide a new family or new people that are interested in the
gospel.

Well mom stay excited and dont get disanimated!! i dont have much time g2gg

Love you alll

Lvoe Jt

P.s. Love you dad thanks for everything!!
hey hey.

well just to let you know i couldnt see the football laces just the brwon background. So im kinda jealous to know that you are watcvhing football!! iwanna be there haha. I saw the dolphins playing the patriots a few weeks back on the tv of one of the converts here haha.

Well sadto hear that brother zuniga pased away. Thats just a shame to have to hear about. How is the family doing?? As i said before its hard but the family has the gospel knowlege of eternal families and mor ethan anything that should help them in this moment. Send the my regrets and best wishes please.

Um just to let you know that i dont write on sundays always on mondays haah. So your looking to set up my cristmas package already??? wowo hahah.. Well just to let oyu know dont worry about the garments becuase here they sell garments that are way away cheap here. They havent gone bad yet ive had luck. IF you want you could send me a few shirts like 2 or 3 of the Stafford size 15 1/2. Othere than that im great. Maybe a tie to change things up ;)

Everything is going good here. We are working hard and focusing uourselves a ton in the families here. We broght 2 families to church this week and we are preparing them real good for baptism. Changes are this week on wednesday but i found out to day who has them and who doesnt. They told that my comp and i wil stay together another change. Im pretty excited for that becuase of the families that we have been preparing.

Wow so kaylie is getting married? thats great that shes found a good mormon guy to take her eto the temple! dang you should tell here to write me haha. Well thats good luck that aaron didnt pass his driving test haha just kidding but ya hes gotta focus alot on the road. Hell be like dad and grandpa. SEeing the sights mor than the road.

WEll my family ive got to go for now. Thanks for everything for all the support and lvoe and i hope this week goes great!!!

Love Jonny"!
Hey hey hows it all going?
Well today we decided to write early to havfe more time in the
afternoon to do other stuff so ya. Well all is going well here. IM
doing great but im still fat and yes i have that food gutand no i dont
think ill grow taller ;( . ITs a rather disturbing site but i plan
to get rid of it when i get home hahaha. Tell sister little that im
doing great just working hard and having as much fun as i can without
breakiung the rules! I didnt feel or know thtat there was anearth
quake in costa rica and es im doing good healthwise. Just feel a bit
sick becuase i decided to buy chocolate milk this morning and ive
never done well with milk haha. Well just so you know im pretty sure
that the rainy part of the year has ended because its been blazing hot
with clear skies fr the last 5 days. Now stats the summer season here
oh boy.

No you hadnt told me that jesicas is preparing for a mision. That
will be way great for her and for her family. O speking of mission
calls there is a girl here that just opend her call and is going to
mesa arizona!! i told her tha my grandparents live ther and that they
work in the temple. I might send a letter to grandpa through her
haha.

WEll thats all. I hope Grandpa keeps getting better and also i hope
that brother zuniga dopes alright and especially his family. Its a
terrible losss becuase he is a great person. Well just keep me in
your preayers. ç

I love you all!!!
Lvoe me
Well hows it going?

This weekend went really well. I liked the conference a lot had a
good time watching it. There were some really good talkes and i did
liek that one bout parenting he is sooo right. Im rather jealous that
jordan went to the conference that wuold be really neat.

Im doing really good here. I havent been sick or anyhting for a while
(jinx). I am pretty bored of the beans and rice but oh well gotta
live with it for one more year. Tell ryan that im proud of his
progress in scouts and that he should be very thankful becuase here
they dont have it.

Right now we are actually teaching a lot of new people. Weve put
aside a few of the people that just werent progressing and we have
found some new families to teach. OUr new presidente is reallly
really focused in families. We try to teach at least 3 families a day
and we try to find various throughout the day. As a leader im trying
to make the zone understand that we really shouldnt be baptizing
anything other than familias and of course the people that are single
but truely repentant and prepared. Its a great experience teaching
and helping al these missionaries.

Ive only got a year but im one of the old people in the mission.
Everyone is really new and green still. For that reason i hvae tobe a
good leader and help them as much as possible.

Today was great. WE palyed volleyball for a little while. I was
thinking a lot about vball and my buddies like alex.

Well i g2g. Not much time when you have to report lots of numbers and
everything.

I lvoe you all soooo much.
Love jonnie
Hey hey mom!!! i hope all is going reallly well up there. Right now
we are doing well here. Thanks for your prayers for eda i think it
helped out becuase shes getting baptized this Saturday!! it was really
good experience becuase wen we passed by her house on sunday morning
she wasnt there and no one answered the door. I was a bit bummmed out
but then i called her at 930 to remind her and she said she was going
to go. aWe waited at 10 and she didnt arrive. We waited and waited
and i just keept hoping. We had the sacrament and i almost gave up
when she walked in with her daughter after the sacrament and i got way
happy. She stayed for the 3 hours (missed 30 of the RF becuase she
left becuase of the cough that she had haha) but she liked it alot.
We went to visit her later at night and she said it was good and liked
it and then she told us that she wants to get baptized on saturday!!!

Well just to let you know we do get the conference at the same time on
the same day. Its from satelite and the chapels here have satelite.
im going to watch it in inglish!! im prertty excited for that.

Well i hope all goes super duper well. Cant wait to see yall again
heres some pictures of the activity we did on friday to teach the
investigators about the tempple and the sealing it was awesome.

G2g... hope all goes well. Study hard kids thats all i can say to
aaron is just focuse and seek gods help through prayer.

Love jonny!!
Hey family!
Im doing really well other than the fall that i had today! we were
playing soccer and i stopped a goal but i stepped on the ball and
slipped and hurtt my elbow a bit...IOther than that its going alright.
Our zone in stuggling to baptize right now and the presidente is a
bit worield but weve got some good posibilities for this week. I know
that im bieng a good leadedr and everything but i just feel that im
doing bad cause we arent doing so hot lol..

Wow so i officilaly have a yaer in the mision!!! thats way way crazy i
cant belive it at all. Its gone by so fast and ive learnd a lot but
ive got a whole lot to learn still. Ww thats coold grant is in
mexico and phil is going to romania! haha wow. Glad to hear yall had
a great time in Pendleton! Too bad dad didnt get anything. And i
agree with you the bufallo meat is way delicious.

Good that grandpa is doing alright but sad for the zuniga family i
hope that they can have a lot of faith that he keeps going strong.

Well everthing is going great here im enjoying every minute of it and
im trying to be the best i can be. Right now we are working with an
investigator that is really really interested in the gospel and liks
the lessons we teach and keeps all the commintmnets that we put and
she tells that the shes searching for spirituality in her life and she
says wattch out you guyts are going to baptize me. Maybe you could
just keep her in your prays so that she can join us at church. Her
name is eda.

Well other than that not much else. LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!!!! hahahahaha

Happy Bday Rae. I love you!

Love jt
Good Afternoon!

How are you all doing?

Everything is going well here. My comp did get switched im sad about
that!.. They sent him to the office as a retention missionary. Hes a
great elder and i miss him haha it was way fun with him.

Now im with Elder Moran. Hes from guatemala and he is going to
complete a year wit hme on thursday! i think we are going to burn a
tie or shirts together or something cool. Anyways hes a really great
guy and really tries to worry and help the missionaries in our zone.
Theyve left me as a zone leader and im thankful for the opportunity to
help leading these missionaries. We are doing really well and we get
along great. Weve been able to go on divisions with our zone to help
the missionaries and are seeing good results of it.

Sounds like everting is pretty calm in the house huh? i hope all is
going well. Rachels bday is coming up sooon! hahha shes going to be
wat11 right? Thats crazy.

So did dad get an elk? i hope hes not bummed out if he didnt get one.
Im kinda jealous that youre going to the rodeo id like to see that
again. Only in Pendleton huh? haha Say Hi to everyone for me. Ben
Alex Kyle and the Petersons and everyoneª!

TEll Ryan im proud of him for all that he has done with his scouting!
soon enough hell get his eagle and be done! haha wow i can believe
that eather.

How is grandpa doing? remind him that i love him a lot.
Well i g2g not much time today mom.. Love you!

Love Elder thorpe!ç

hey hey everything is going very well here. Im still here in the
heart of managua in las palmas. This week we have changes on
wednesday! wow and they already told us who is going to have changes.
IM kinda bummbed out right now becuase i know that they are going to
change me companion! we been doing great here and we get along so
well. Ive never gotten along with a companion so well.

Wow so the house must be pretty lonely these days huh? thats so weird
to think that there are only 3 kids in the house.. Thats one room
each! ahaha wow. I hope jordan is doing well over there in byu sounds
like hes already having a blast. G

Everything is going really well here. Trying to be the best leader i
can be. Glad to hear that you are always going to the temple. Its
way important that you go as often as posible to `keep close to the
spirit.

Well so we have a family that we ahve been teaching and they ahve
gone about 6 times to church already. Theyre really prepared but the
husband has to get divorced from his wife frst so that they can get
amrried and be a legal couple. They are really motivated to keep the
commandments of God and complete with all that we teach.

well i hope all goes well this week. I dont have much time to write
soo ill see yall next week!!

Great to hear grandpa is doing well. Tell him i love him,

Love, Jon!
ps. Good luck dad!

Hey hey!
Thanks for the birthday congrats,, I did have a really good birhtday. Everyone was giving me presents and i wasnt even expecting it! haha Some missionaries gave me ties and members gave me hankercheifs and random stuff. All of the members in the little section where we live bought me a cake and craked and egg over my head(its a tradition here). . Glad to know you ate a cake in my honor ;()

Wow so grandpas doing not so well? aw i sure hope it was just a one day thing. Wow its crazy how fragile life is. I never really thought about it that much until now taht Grandpa has had some troubles . Hope is ok.

Too bad karen isnt answering your calls. MAybe theres some other reason behind it but just keep trying to be a great friend and example to her.

WEll everthing is going really well here. WE were able to get 100% retention of the recent converts this month 16 out of 16 have gone at least 1 time to church. Thats pretty exciting. WE also had 7 investigators but werent the ones that we were expecting ahah..

Weve found a few more families to work with and hope that they will really understand this message and begin to visit and prepare to be baptized. This weeekend 28th we are going to have an acitivity, The Titanic! its going to be based on the family relationships and how the parents especilally the fatheres have a big role in the lives of the children. Its going to be great but we are a bit worried about building the ship! we need wood lol..

Well jsut so you now im all healthy and all. We paly baasket ball and soccer everymorning to get some excersise but i havent lost the weight im looking for ( i weigh 152 pounds!) wow im getting way fat mom i have a big beer gut. ahha im gonna try to fix thatt.

Welll other tan that all is good. thanks for the letter and everything!

Love you all Take care and stay out of trouble!!!

ll safe and sound back in good old yucaipa huh? im very glad to hear that grandpa is doing well in rehab. (sounds like hes getting off of the drugs or alcohol haha). Thats a lot of therapy but its better to do it a lot so that he recovers quickly.

Just to let you know i recieved your package already! i liked how the tie was rigged to fall down haha. Great idea. Thanks for the candy and stuff. I havent opened the card yet (not until the bday). Glad to hear that you all enjoyed the stuff that i sent you. but sad to hear tht ryan already fits in my shoes! wowo thats crazy. I cant imagine him already taller than I.

So im in managua and its way different than the places ive been in. Here all of the houses are pegged together like cardboard. In one block there are at least 30 houses on each side and the blocks are only 200 ft long. Its really suprising how small but how populated my area is. We dont live in the church (its actually a chapel now) we live in a house right across the street from it. We eat about a 1 minute walk right behind the church and the sister washes our cloths too. But she feeds and washes for 6 missionaries. I buy my breakfast at a bread shop evry morning. They sell cinamon rolls and lots of breads that are really good.

well spencer stayed in his area. And he stayed with the same companion. Its really a good opportunity for him to learn a whole lot.
This last week we had a series of trainings for the zls. From tuesday to friday we were with president monestel learning basic points taht we need to change so that we can become better teachers nad have more success. MY comp and i have already put in practice some of the things we have learnd and we have seen the difference the simple changes make. Right now we are planning a stake activity called the titanic. We aer goign to build a boat out of cardboard and have a big activity abuot parents and fathers and their roles in life and how they can be good examples and leaders in the home.

WEll mom thanks for everything. I hope you are all doing great up there! Keep working hard and keep the kids with their minds on the mission!

I lvoe you all so much,
Love jonny boy
Wow so grandpas got his leg cut off oficially. Hmm thats goin to be weird to see him with a prosthetic leg. Tell him to get in good shape so nothing else happens!!!

Did i get transferred? Yes. IM now in Managua. IM in a ward thats called Las Palmas. Here the first chapel was built in all of Nicaragua. IM doing really good here so far. Just gotta adjust to having a companion thats older than me and takes more control. I was just so used to being in charge and doing the talking and stuff. Welll the decided to make me a zone leader. Its not too different so far. Im seeing that i have to worry about 18 missionaries instead of 4 haha. Thats a bit different.

We are doing good though as a companionship. My comps name is Elder Espinal. His is from honduras and has 19 months in the mission. Hes a good missionary and we are getting along great.

So your having a great time up there! I cant wait to get back ahha. You are always doing tons of stuff with out me now! I would like to go hiking with mkike after the mission for a little bit. SO the wave runners are ours or no?

Wow in four weeks jordan starts studding? thats pretty crazy! next thing hell be putting in his papers and heading off the the mision! i wonder if ill see him before he goes. So rae is going to donate her hair? thats wonderful i want to see the pics of rae bald!

Well everthing is going just splendid here. Im trying to keep my spirits up here in managua. ITs a lot different than any other area that i know and reallly really small!... well im going to switch computers so that i can send some pics!
Well just to let yall know im doing well here. We are trying to find lots of families to find and teach so that we can baptize at least a family in agust! i wanna baptize on my birthday weekend! So like i said im not sure if i will be here or not but ill find out on wednesday wats going to happen!

I love being in the mision becuase with every elder that you talk with or work with you end up learning something new from that person or you find something about the missionary work that you need to change or improve. Its going to be a great blessing for each of the boys when they go on their missions!

WElll i dont have tons of time today but im glad to read you letters always!

I love you all so much and thank you mom for your support and love.

love jonathan !!
So im pretty jealous that they got to go wakeboarding and cliffjumping! that must have been way awesome! (Jordan and Aaron went on a high adventure trip to Zions) I hope they had lots of fun up there. Tell rachel that i said that i will kill all of the bees in all the whole world just for her. tell her that shes lucky because i got stung too but by a black wasp! it scared me but i think he only bit me.

Thats good that grandpa is doing more excercises. That will help him a lot. Hope hes not always in that chair though ( im mean that he gets up in the day and walks). Wow just before you know it jordans goona be on his own up in utah! haha thats going to be crazy. Aaron will be the big boy of the house with the car and everything.. wow-- So your right my big birthday is coming right up! wow in the next change ill be 20 and have 11 months.. thats kinda weird. Well theres really not anything that i absolutely need. Just kandy and fun stuff. I sent you guys a package last week. Its got my cleats, pmg, and some gifts taht i bought yall. Youll have to guess who gets wat based on wat you see there.

The work is going well here. Weve been baptizing one or two every week. We are doing pretty good right now. The last baptism we had already got conferred the priesthood and is really excited. I really saw a true repentance in him before his baptism. He stopped drinking and went to church and is cutting back on the bad words and everything. Weve acutally kinda slowed down on teaching families. We did an acitivity and have a few self references from it but we havent been very able to contact them and teach them yet.

Im doing well healthwise. Today i broke the toenail of my big toe playing soccer. It started bleeding and everything but it really doesnt hurt too much. My pinky toe has hurt for a week now (might have broken it lol). My stomach is doing well. Weve cut off our breakfast appointment with the sister becuase we both really dont like to eat beans every morning and night and at lunch haha. We are just going to buy cookies or bread every day.

Well i hope karen will start to accept the gospel a bit more. Im not sure why its harder for the people in the states to recieve an answer and be baptized. Maybe its just that the people here are really humbled by the circumstances of their lives.

Thanks for the letter mom im doing great!
Haha ya i already knew the score (tried not to watch but there was too muich pressure) it was a really good battle for sure. Glad to hear that grandpa is doing better now. I wasnt way worried but a little bit.

Thats great that ryan had a good time over theire and did some work too! haha ç
I cant believe that jordan got a i5 of 5 Hes such a genius. Tell him congrats for the good mark.

Everything is going very well eher. Im doing well and helping lots of people not only know the church but also stay active (one of the challenges here). We did an activity ion friday and got some really good references. WE are still in the south and that is the same mission office and address. Spencer didnt talk to the mish pres but with our zone leaders. His companion really just needs a lot of help and more respect and that iis wat elder harrisons got to do. Hes gotta just come to love him and help him learn toi be a missionary.

So we fouind out that we got robbed. MY comp didnt lose his money biut it got stolen. They also took his camera a few days later. They didnt get anything from me but they also stole the dvd player from our ward. Our biship is mad and is going to get money back for each of the things lost. The people who stole the stuff were a grioup of guys hired by the chruch to paint and change some of the tihings in the church. They arent members but say that the have 10 years working with the chrurh and never had problems. They are theives though and i could ffeel it from the 1st day that they came.ç

WEll i hope the iizunigas are doing ok. its been a long battle so far for them. Kellie doing good. Shes been writing but today i didnt recieve anything. o well.

WEll ive been dioing fine here just working with lots of references because those are the people that giet batptized here.. Trying to work with a bishopthat doestn want us to baptize so much. O well im going to baptize like always.

Thansk for your prayers and your support nad love. Im going to send home a little package tommorow with some sweet igifts in it!

WEl thats about all.. I love you all. Enjoy the sumer break!

Love jonnyboy!
Wow i didnt even realize that it was fourth of july weekend haha. I was in church yesterday and one of the elderes reminded me that it was the 4th of july haha.. made me kinda trunky thinkin about wat i would be doing and thinking about the 4th of july last year and how ive had the endownments for a year now. Wow lots of stuff has passed so fast!

So today was pday and we played soccer again. Im getting pretty good at it playin with all these latins! Afterwards we went to mcdonalds and then we bummed a ride back to our area! it was pretty fun although we arent supposed to ask for rides. The guys were way chill though so it wasnt harmful. Plus my comp lost his money that we just recieved for the month. We were broke the whole month of june and now my companion doesnt have anything again. poor kid i hope he finds his money.

Im doing great here! having a lot of fun and just trying to enjoy every moment that im here. Elder harrison is havin a few troubles with his comp. He said that his comp doesnt teach and wont teach. He doesnt bare his testimony becuase he doesnt have one. Nvever read the book of mormon before the mission.

My stomach is actually doing really good. I havent been feeling sick or anything and im doing well. The people here dont eat very many fruits and veggies. The sister does try to give us salads and carrots and healthy stuff too.

So Ryan is going to scout camp?? thats way awesome! He´ll have a blast out there im sure of it. So aaron and jordan are causin trouble over there still? hmmm maybe its better for them that they are punished. Theyve gotta be more obedient thats for sure!

Grandpas not doing so hot these days huh? Hmmm thats pretty scary that he had a stroke and a heart attack. Did he realize it or no?? Theyve already cut off two toes and are thinking about amputating his leg if the infection doesnt settle down? wow im imagining grandpa with a prosthetic leg or a weelchair. Thats really good that he is alert and normal..

So here where we eat our food the sister lives next door to her mom and other sisters and cousins. One of her sisters that is 25 that we are pretty good friends with just went to the hospital alst week too. She went becasue she had a cramp in her leg. By the time she got to the hospital here whole body was cramping up and she wasnt doing too well. Shes still in the hospital as of now and sister sanchez says that shes doing way bad and doesnt respond when you talk or anyhting... She must have had some alergic reaction to a medicine or someithing that she ate.

So derek couldnt make it through the mtc? wow that sucks.. I hope he will find the strength to return and try it again. I hope hes not too traumatized by the death of ross that he cant do the lords work..

Well thats about all for now. Im doing really well here and working really hard. We baptized a little old cripple mom this saturday and we are going to get her a weel chair soon. It was great to see her get baptized. The people here are so so so so incredibly humble.

WEll g2g... I love you all so much .

Love jonny

Na no worries about me mom im feeling better since last week. Im not sure if i had parasites or not becuase i had the simptoms but now i feel better. But everyonce in a while i feel bad in the stomach like i felt before too. O well just have to live with it until i get home!! haha. Tell ryan i said thanks for his good luck with the parasite. Lately im not too worried a bout that becuase im worried about my wieght! ive gained 10 POUNDS : ( IM getting so fat here in nicaragua hahah.. im pretty sure its from all of the dang rice we eat here.. rice at every meal ! its horrible. The sister even gives me less and i still get fat and feel so full haa.

Well spencer still is in my zone but they put two more missionaries out there where he is and made those two sets a district. But i still see him the same amount. Its pretty fun bieng with him..
So zack is officially married and tied down? bummer hes not going to be as fun as he was before. Probably going to have some kids really fast hah. Where are they going to vacation?

So grandpa isnt doing very well these days ?? is he still going out and working or is he just in the house all the time? Wow i hope he gets better really soon. What is it that makes him dizzy and faint? is it because of the diabetes? Thanks for the update ill definitely keep him in my prayers. Tell him i love him a lot and miss listening to his stories from the mission and from high school.

TEll jordan to keep at the piano becuase he will use it in the mision. My companion plays the piano and right now he is going to start teaching the young women how to play. IM pretty jealous and im pretty sure taht im going to join in on the lessons. Tell those rascals to do all their chores and play the piano and be obedient and youll let the go see their movies.

Everything is going well here. We are trying to find a few more families to baptize becuase we almost dont have any families that we are teaching. Im thinking after this change they might send me to a different place and i want to finish here with at least one more family thats very positive. All else is going well. I kinda hurt my kknee last week and today it was hurting again when i played soccer (im getting way way good at it). Well thats about all really. About the ties i dont need many only a few. Just a few 3 or so that are new so that im not so bored hah.. The sun has been coming out more and im absolutley loving it even though its blazing hott. I have more energy and ganas when the sun is out versus when its raining a ton.

So i decided that im going to send you a package. Im going to send home those cleets and some gifts for everyone ; ) Youll just have to wait and see whats in store!!

So right now we are teaching some catholics that live right in front of the caithlic church and go there every week. It will be way hard to convert them but well see how it goes. I have not tried this before so it wll be interesting haha.

WEll i think thats about it.. Everything is just fine here exept the big beer gut ive got going on.
I love you all so much. Thanks for all of you love and support!!
Love

Wow thats pretty luckky that she brought over an ifone and a laptop! how nice of her lol.. Im pretty jealous to be honest! i dropped my fone yesterday and now the earpiece sounds really funny when i talk on it.

Well anyways so things are going really well here. Today we had another super pday ( think pres. is trunky haha!) lol but today was fun we went to the volcano of Masaya! we couldnt see any lava but there was a lot of smoke coming out of the crater. It was cool but i got way burnt. I look like a tomato now. but i got to hang out the spencer the whole day! aha it was really fun. Im sad we didnt hang out before the mission. weve been talking so much about how we are going to hang out soo much after the mission and that i might be his best man ( hes always trunky talking about his girl hahahha).

Other than that its been going really well here . WE had two baptisms here on Saturday and we are hoping for two more this saturday. We are looking to finsh the change with 14 baptisms! my recent converts are way awesome too. 3 of them are men that are going to prepare to get the priesthood. They are really excited and i bought them little notebooks to take notes in the class that they are taking. Its way sweet to see the desire they have to progress! I just hope that they never fall that their baptism means a lot to them and that they stay strong in the church here. ITs a bit different in this ward because there isnt a lot of support from the ward in the mision work.

Im doing really well so far you were right that i shouldnt worry about being district leader or about numbers. Ive had a really good change this time and i really dont want my companion to leave! i hope he doesnt go yet. Hes a good kid and we are having fun and baptizing. Well i hope all is going well there. Hope you are completing your goal to go to the temple 2 times a month. Just remember the privilege it is to have a temple so close!

Well tell everyone i said hi . Tell rae that i love her and cant wait to see here again!

Oh hey i was gonna ask if you had sent that package with batteries yet.. If you havent sent it yet maybe you could find me a few more ties and mail them to me! i really liked that red one that you sent me it was pretty awesome. Im just feelin like having a few new ties to change up the norm ya know! and i wanna leave a few with converts here so they have ties to wear to church!

Well thanks for everything mom. I love you so much and i really do appreciate everything you do for me. Love you dad and jordan aaron and ryan!

Dont forget to read your scriptures as a family!

Wow thats pretty crazy that its already summer break over there! Here it feels more like winter haha cuase its been raining and raining and raining so much. Yesterday it didnt rain but its been like a week straight of clouds and rain here.

Well this past week went really well for us! We prepared a lot of people for their baptisms and it all went really well! On friday we married 3 couples and saturday baptized 9 people including 2 couples. It was really awesome so we ended the month with 10 baptisms. We were pretty excited yesterday and saturday but im really really tired from the weekend.

Thats great that those friends of the youth are getting baptized.

I cant believe aaron will be 16 ahah.. he can actually drive legally now thats pretty scary. Tell him i said happy birthday punk! Thats good that hes been changing his character. maybe home school wasnt a bad deal after all huh.

Well im doing really well here mom no worries about me. I havent had much time to eat the candy and food from that package you sent me because we eat at 830 and when i get home im not hungry, maybe ill start carrying the food in my backpack to eat it during the day. Im getting a little bored of the ward taht im in. The people are cool and all but most of them are all really rich people. All of our recent converts are poor people that are really humble and ready to do the lords will. I just hope that division doesnt cuase people to reject the church. The night of the wedding and the baptisms our converts said that many of the people were laughing at them ( at least thats what it seemed like to them ) and ive seen that some of the members dont even want to support them as members of the church.. its rediculous. o well. I dont understand the pride of some peoples hearts. WE are going to bring this up in the Ward council...

Well hope all is well there! everything is good here im doing great and just working hard like always!!!

We were able to talk to Jon for over an hour on Mother's Day. He's doing well and has a new companion. He is also serving in the same district as Spencer Harrison (who is from the 4th ward in our stake). Jon was made a district leader last week. This means he oversees two other companionships (4 elders). Attached are two pictures he sent to us. One is of his new companion. I think he's from El Salvador. The other picture is of the Chavez family who was baptized a few weeks ago.

I'm still trying to get the pictures up. You may have to give me a day or two to figure it out. :(

Thursday, April 15, 2010

Hey im doing pretty good .. yesterday was way hard becuase i fasted! but i know the blessings will come from the lord. Well the father made it to church yesterday and liekd it. But the lesson for the 2nd hour was about the scriptures and how we use teh bible bom dyc and pogp. He was way confused cuaase we had only told him of the bom. His family wants to get baptized. hes just a bit insecure of a person in general.

So the neighbor might go ahead and get baptized then. That would be really good acutally cause the rest of the family can attend the baptism and feel that spirit and see how we do baptisms in the church.
Dont worry too much, you can send me some pictures when you have the time to do it. So ryan has lost some wieght and gotten even taller. Wow i cant beleive it. i bet he is way happy about that huh! Tell him inm happy for him too ;)
I havent heard from derek yet and yes i do remember greg! hes really nice guy and your probably right that he has seen a good example from me and trusted in you for that reason. AFter the mission im gonna talk with all those boys and really teach them the gospel by word and doctrine ratehr than example as i did before.

Thats great that eli is going to get baptized tell him i said congratulations. Its good taht hes got good friends.

Hmmm well just to let you know all is well here. My companion is trunky but now i know how to deal iwth a trunky companion. Im trying to work him as much as posible. hes making it a bit hard for me once he leaves becuase im not going to have a lot of investigators with baptismal dates. He doesnt really want to find more and more people now that he is leaving. Im still trying hard though becasue in May president wants taht we baptize 1000 people.

So with the Family of Alex we are doing Family Prayers at 6 in the morning. I know its going to strengthen their family relacion and help the to be baptized. Just to remind you guys how important it is that you do family prayers. Hope your doing the most possible to do them so that the children are blessed as it says in 3nephi18.

WElll... Lvoe you all very much ! Thanks so much for every thing..
Hey sorrry if i didnt tell you happy birthday mom. I meant to write

Thursday, April 8, 2010

Hey Hey conference was really great huh? i really liked learning how they choose where to assign the missionaries that was pretty awesome to hear. They really do it through revelacion and prophecy. I also learned from my last comp that they try to match you to your mission president beacuase there are certain qualities that you will learn from him that you will need in your life. I also liked that talk about Patience in the priesthood session. Its good to learn that patience is active perserverance or in other words keeping the hope that it will happen but also working hard to make it happen too. Have patience mother with the chiildren :) haha I also noticed how they spoke alot about the family and specifically the parents. They really are concerned for the youth of the world and know that the parents must play their role well.

Thats great that youve had the opportunity to reach out to other people and share the gospel. Ive realized just how important it really is from bieng in the service of the lord. Sometimes i feel a little shame for not sharing the gospel as m}uch as i could have with my friends back home!

Well everything is going pretty well here, Im now in managua and in the ward were president fraatz attends church with his family. We got to eat with him aand his family yesterday afternoon. Hna fraatz cooked us lasagna! it reminded me of home a whole bunch. It was cool eating with their family cause it reminded me of the sunday dinners we ate as a family. P Fraatz asked his children and us what we had learned in the conference and how we were going to apply it to our lives just as Dad always does with us. It was neat to see how such a common principle is shared all over the world within the church. Its great that we put in practice wat the prophets spoke about.

Well im doing alright. My companion is a bit trunky he only has 4 weeks left. Im trying too keep us busy and working hard. I dont wanna feel like im wasting my time like i felt when i was in Jinotega. IM the Senor companion of us two but we share the load of planning and running the day. I think im going to be training in the next change because there are coming 30 or so missionaries! Hey i got your package with the music and candy just so you know. Tell all the young women thanks for the cards and all!

So we are teaching and preparing a family to be baptized on the 17th. We brought the children to the conference but the parents couldnt make it. The children really like the church alot and really like us as the missionarys. We have a lot of fun with them and they look up to us a lot. I got to talk with one of them named alex. We talked alot about his family and how there have been some rough times with his dad and the family in general. He really wants to see his father and mother change. He and the children want to be baptized in the church but the father is a bit skeptical and hasnt gone to church yet. Were are trying hard to help this family become members and I really want to help them so much more knowing waht he told me.

Wellll, g2g,
Love you all!!!!!! miss ya love jonny

Hey familia! hey i cant wirte a whole lot today. I didnt write yesterday beacuse the power went out in bluefields all day. So ya right now im in managua at the mission offfice. tomorow is the changes conference and ill bet gettin asigned to a new city and new area here in Nica! I really loved bluefields though,, 3 months wasnt enough cocos for me ! lol but im excited to go to a new place too.

Haha ya i have a few of those pictures of elder brizzee and i at the temple in provo. It was great to see him a bit.. i actually just wrote him last week but i dont thnk he has responded to it yet.. Sounds like everthing is going great up there in Yucaipa town.. I really wish i had done more of the activities in the church like to handcarts and the huge dance last year and those sorts of things but o well im here in the mission doing great°!
I heard about taht new program they are dooing with the misionares in the States. they are making them teach more lesssons with members to practice the lessons and get refferences from them. Its a pretty good idea. Ive heard that the states missions have been doing a lot better than before which is good too.

Hey sorry i have to go soo quick but there just isnt much time to write cause im in the office. Next week ill write a bunch more and send a few pictures too. Hope all is well up there in the states ... Jordan felicidades por la decision estudiar en BYU!!!!
Let me know how your school does in the ncaa tourney.

Just remember taht in every situation and in every place that we stand there is the opportunity to spread the gospel in one way or another with the people that surround us. Look for the smallest of opportunities to share to restored gospel.

Lvoe you all a bunch and 2x more

Love Jonny

Alrighty :)

Wow so you are already in spring break over there? Holy bones that is so crazyy. The time is jsut flying by isnt it! Tommorow i complete 6 months into the mission.... believe that?? i dont.. lol i dont feel like im where i should be after 6 months but then again i get to see my progress every once in a while and it makes me happy with where im at. Thats way cool that almost all they guys my age are going on their misssiones. Wisconson spanish speaking is a bit odd though haha.. (Driggs Moore is going there)

Well im pretty jealous that you are on spring break cuase id love to be there ridin dirtbikes gettin all dirty and having a campfire next to the toyhauler and all that good jazz. But hey no worries its kinda the same here right? Really hot and sweaty all day and i get home at night with a wet backpack and a dirty shirt from my sweat ! haha.. ITs been getting really hot here lately .. MArch and April an a tad bit of may are the hottest parts of the year here. ive been puting on suncreen all this week to keep from burnin.. but its hard to put it on in the mornings cause the smell reminds me off all the good times at the beach with family and friends!! haha

Thats good for ryan that hes reading a lot better and pushin himself to do it! Hope rachels play is going well (if she sstill doing it)
HMMM soo jordan has a girlfriend now??! is it official or is it kinda how he was with the other one??

no too much is new here.. alot of people are running out of water cause of the season. Everyones wells are drying up. The attendance in the church is going downhil for some reason.. dont know why but thats not too good. We have 2 baptisms this month and we are looking to have 4 more on saturday. im feeling really good actually.. For about a week up until yesterday i was feeling kinda sick and had diheria. but im feeling really goood today and overall just feel way better. I think part of the problem is taht my compa likes to eat at night. at 830 at night and right after taht we go to bed at 1030. The food doesnt get digested good and i am growing a big pansa (gut)... welll aaron might be right about the muscle thing. When i get back im not gonna be as muscly as him i dont think..... welll here is my spiritual experience of the week for ya... its in spanish so have dad translate it!!! :)

Basically i was guided by the spirit in the instant that i needed the help of the lord. If i wasnt in tune with the spirit i wouldnt have spoken well at all and i woundt have been guided in my words and my thoughts as i spoke. The Lord really has shown me jsut how well i am at speaking spanish throught taht experience.

WEll g2g.. love you all so much!!!

ps no i havent got that package yet.. its probably in the office. And it would be best to send all packages to the office not to the city that im in at the time... Love yall thank you mucho!

Monday, March 8, 2010

Wow President Fraatz really said that about me? hmmmm I'll have to believe it cause it makes me feel good about my self and my improvements in the work and the spanish. To answer your question about the heat, yes, it is always hot like that. ALWAYS. but sometimes there is a pretty good breeze off the coast or sometimes some nice clouds but still its hot haha..

Thats good jordan is leaning towards BYU. hmm I still haven't gotten that package with cds and cookies in it. I hope they still taste good when it gets here haha or when I go to managua to pick it up. No worries theres not much more that I need. Im still enjoying the last package that you sent me witm mnms and smarites and all.

anyways the last week my comp and I did splits 3 days straight. Everytime we go to do spilts I'm a little bit scared to go because I feel like im not good enough to teach or speak with out my compa. we do the splits anyways and I end up having a lot of success and i really feel good about my abilities to teach the gospel. The Lord really does work side by side with us and really sends his spirit to guide us every day in his work. he truly ¨goes before our face¨ and his angels are ¨round about us to bear us up¨ This weekend we baptized the daughter of the person that washes our clothes. On the way to the baptism we found her cousin and she went to see the baptism. After seeing the service and the baptismal ordinance and feeling the spirit that was so strongly present, she decided that she wantd to be baptized. We now are teaching and preparing her to be baptized too. There truly are many people prepared here and in the whole world. All it takes is a touch of the Spirit to change the heart of the person.

Well thank you mucho for everything mom dad and family. Thanks much for your love and support for me and for other missionaries too. Keep working hard in the missionary work up there!

Love elder Thorpe :)

February 28, 2010

Hey hey family! hows it going in Costa Rica mom and dad?? you didnt tell me about this trip you´re taking! lol.. SO your eating pretty much exactly like me... lunch breakfast and dinner are red beans, rice, pollo! Ya there is a bit of a difference in the way people speak here for sure. they dont like to add the s at the end of words so sometimes its hard to tell if they mean it plurally or not. Im pretty jealous but im here in bluefields on the coast too.. i get to enjoy the cool coast air (sometimes) and see the beach and the water. It would be nice to swim but ahhh we cant haha..

WEll i hope that its going great with all of the fiends in Costa! MY compainions are really thankfull for the awesome package that you sent me! they are always askin for more candy and more carne seca haha. Well that is good that jordan is starting to lean more towards the BYU. it really would be better off for him the the long run and in the preparation for the mision too.

I heard about the earthquake. . 8.8 on the rictor scale wow thats really scary.. we were teaching some lessons and people ahd the news on and we saw a bit of the damage that was done.. i hope there arent big faults here in nicaragua

WEll my stomach is doing alrigght .. I was feelin sick a bit but im feelin better now no worries. Dont worry about the white t shirts. The sister taht washes them bleaches them out really good and theres no problems.

All is going really well here. We have placed a lot of baptismal dates this last week to prepare for march. We are working really hard and trying to unite families right now. We are reactivating some less actives and teaching the daughter and her two children that never got baptized. WE taught lesson 1 about the restoration really clearly and watched the restoration. The spirit was really strong and we were able to resolve some of her previous doubts about the book of mormon.
Just to testify to you the power and help the the Lord gives to his missionaries is obvious in every day. When we get up and follow all the rules of the mornin like starting our studies at 8 and 9 instead of starting late beacuse of the shower or wat not the spirit is really with me the whole day. IM able to teach and testify and talk more clearly. When we dont study well or not at all i really feel that im not progressing at all and wehn i speak it isnt fluent. Im really grateful to be serving the lord and i have learnd that obedience really is the key. IF we want to achieve anything we have to be obedient to the commandments of the lord..

well g2g Love you all!!!!

February 21, 2010

So this weekend we baptized 2 people. One of the was a teen with 14 years and i baptized him. IT was really special for me beacuse after i baptized him i asked him how he felt.. He didnt explain it but he said he felt something. AFter we changd i asked him agian and he explaind that he felt a great weight was released from him. I really felt the spirit once he said it and then i testified of the purpose of baptism how it really does clean a person and how Our savior Jesus Christ takes away all of uor stains and sins through the baptism. It was a really strong spirit that i felt and i know he was feelign it too.

February 15, 2010

Sounds like everythings doing good up there in the states.. GO USA!! haha right now is the slam dunk contest too right?? lol anyways i cant believe jimmy is done with his mission and even crazier is that im 5 months in.... wow... so im doing good here in good shape and the spanish is really going well sometimes i feel like i suck at it but really i just need to look back at all the blessings of the lord and realise that its a process that takes a while longer than i want lol... The mission is going good but we havnt had baptisms in 2 weeeks. next week we have some planned and i really hope all goes well so we can baptize them. I feel like sometimes i dont say the right words to help the people the way they need the help but im trying everyday to better my teachings and my questiions..

February 1, 2010

Well i have a new compa already. after 3 and a half weeks i got left on my own again. my compa left to traing to be a ZL and im with elder estrada now. He is awesome . has 21 months . lots of experience and desire to finsh strong. We are working hard. ended the month with 9 baptisms in our branch and 9 or 10 in the other branch! Ive also heard that Nicaragua is going to split into 2 missions really soon (probably when pres fratz leaves)!! its way awesome to hear that we are prgressing well here.. well g2g

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

wow sounds like y'all are having tons of fun up in Yucaipa! Cancelled school and snow I'm jealous right now.. I wanna come up and go sledding! haha. . . Well thanks for your prayers and love and support and my name on the prayer roll. I really need all the support I can get !! There's lots of work to be done here . .

Don't worry about sending a hymn book in Spanish.. Ive got one no worries. I don't think there is anything else that I need in the package. Nothing specific that I'm absolutely dying to have.

The weather has been good here. The storm passed up to you guys and we've had sunny weather. Hotttt sunny weather. I'm healthy and in good shape. The work is going well and im learning how to teach and do everything in Spanish (it could have helped if I had known how to teach in English beforehand haha). Everything's going great here. This week is our last week of the month to have baptisms.... we have 5 and need 5 more to make our goal!! i know we can do it we just need to work smart.

Tell Ryan I totally would have gone down the hill with him! and tell rachel that i laughed for a few minutes when i read that she fell in the pool!!! :) Tell Jordan HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG 18 wowowww... he's 18 holy mollly... Tell Aaron good luck in volleyball and keep working hard in school tooo!!ç

He hey!

How goes it? everything is going great over here in Blufields. The rain has stopped and i really miss it actually ! ahha its so hot. After i write im gonna buy some ice cream for sure.
The Package.... Um i don't think there is any else i really need. My companion was wondering if you could send a cd player but there are cd players here a bout the same price. hmmm there's not much else i need need. just whatever you want to send. The house im in has a stove so if you wanna send something cookable you can (we don't have a oven though). I Bought a pillow so no worries about sending one i have one! (thats why there is about 10 or 12 dollars missing from my bank account if you were wondering)

Wow i cant believe Jimmy is done! This week we traveled to Managua for a Missionary Conference. Every conference the missionaries that are leaving get up and bear their testimonies. Elder Fergueson bore his testimony. It was really good to here his testimony. Afterwards he told me that he felt weird bearing his testimony because hes pretty much done with his mission. Ah i have so much time left but it will fly by. It already is flying by...

Hmm so some small earthshakes lately in cali? Hey was there a big earthquake recently somewhere in the world?? a lot of people died or wat? hmmm kinda scary stuff.. Dang im jealous! i wanna go ice skating! its so hot here it would be great to be in the snow again..

So how is the fam? rachel burnt her knee and finger? ouch that must have hurt .. How is Ryan with the surgery? Jordan finishing strong in school? keep me posted on aaron's success with vb
How is dad with work? still a bit depressed or enjoying it?
Most important... How are you mom? still busy a ever with the RS and the responsibilities of the house and kids and everything thing in between??
Hope all is well .. my week went well. We went to the conference and learned a lot of stuff. Pres Fraatz talked to us for ever but it was good. He ended off talking about how the mission shapes the people we will be and the type of family we will have and create. He taught that he has his family planted and fastened in the gospel because of his mission experience. IF we learn obedience in the mission we will have obedient families... it was a good day. The trip to Managua is pretty awesome. 2 hours in a boat "panga" and about 6 in a bus. its nuts .. but fun with the missionaries here they are hilarious. we had 3 baptisms Saturday. 2 of them were unplanned "milagros" or "miracles"

No worries about food or clothes here. its all covered.... well g2g

Love JT
ps ¡si, you comería carne de tortuga otra vez!

Friday, January 15, 2010

Bluefields is awesome. There are a lot of Black people here which means there are a lot of American things too. Which is pretty nice lol. Um Bluefiels is really pretty, right on the ocean. The view is absolutely amazing. Theres only 2 problems here. The electricity and the water. The power goes out a lot here. LAst night it wnet out and we thought we wouldnt be able to write but it came back on. The water is bad here( and in all of nicaragua).

Oooooo coool experience yesterday.. or saturday. I tried a new food ive never had before. Carne de Tortuga. Turtle!!! haha it was really interesting. The meat tastes pretty normal but the part that is around the meat is all soft and kinda chewy. I think it was the fin but im not totally sure. anyways its crazy awesome here

lol love jonny boy

Thursday, January 7, 2010

Well everything is going outstanding here!! I got changed to Bluefields on the east coast! My new comp is Elder Contreras. He is great! He has great desire to work really really hard and we have a lot of success here. We are working way hard every day and everynite we hit the bed half dead. He is way excited to do the Lord's work and it is really refreshing to have this new companion whose on fire! I'm loving it here in blue fields despite all the rain.

I'm doing a lot better mentally no need to worry about me. I'm having so much success with the language right now. Everyday I open my mouth and talk and talk a lot more than I ever did in Jinotega. Im pretty sure I've talked more spanish in 4 days here than iIhave in 6 weeks in Jinotega. I've already had some great experiences too.

On sunday we did divisions with the youth and I was with eric and bismark. We went around to members and RC (recent convert) so I could get to know them and also we went to a few investigators too. At one Rc family house we got there and when we arrivedI wanted to teach about Keeping the sabbath day holy. After we had sang a hymn and had the opening prayer I didn't teach about the sabbath day. I was prompted to teach about service and how Christ did the greatest service for us and we can serve him by keeping his commandments and serving our neighbors. It was an awesome lesson and the spirit filled the room. I know that I was guided by the spirit to teach that lesson. I know this is the Lords work and we have to do it in his way. I could have taught a good lesson on the sabbath day but it wouldn't have been worth nearly as much as the lesson that was taught by the holy ghost.

Everything is going really great for me right now. I'm not depressed like I was before cuase we are working hard now. g2g
