Hey familia! hey i cant wirte a whole lot today. I didnt write yesterday beacuse the power went out in bluefields all day. So ya right now im in managua at the mission offfice. tomorow is the changes conference and ill bet gettin asigned to a new city and new area here in Nica! I really loved bluefields though,, 3 months wasnt enough cocos for me ! lol but im excited to go to a new place too.

Haha ya i have a few of those pictures of elder brizzee and i at the temple in provo. It was great to see him a bit.. i actually just wrote him last week but i dont thnk he has responded to it yet.. Sounds like everthing is going great up there in Yucaipa town.. I really wish i had done more of the activities in the church like to handcarts and the huge dance last year and those sorts of things but o well im here in the mission doing great°!
I heard about taht new program they are dooing with the misionares in the States. they are making them teach more lesssons with members to practice the lessons and get refferences from them. Its a pretty good idea. Ive heard that the states missions have been doing a lot better than before which is good too.

Hey sorry i have to go soo quick but there just isnt much time to write cause im in the office. Next week ill write a bunch more and send a few pictures too. Hope all is well up there in the states ... Jordan felicidades por la decision estudiar en BYU!!!!
Let me know how your school does in the ncaa tourney.

Just remember taht in every situation and in every place that we stand there is the opportunity to spread the gospel in one way or another with the people that surround us. Look for the smallest of opportunities to share to restored gospel.

Lvoe you all a bunch and 2x more

Love Jonny

Alrighty :)

Wow so you are already in spring break over there? Holy bones that is so crazyy. The time is jsut flying by isnt it! Tommorow i complete 6 months into the mission.... believe that?? i dont.. lol i dont feel like im where i should be after 6 months but then again i get to see my progress every once in a while and it makes me happy with where im at. Thats way cool that almost all they guys my age are going on their misssiones. Wisconson spanish speaking is a bit odd though haha.. (Driggs Moore is going there)

Well im pretty jealous that you are on spring break cuase id love to be there ridin dirtbikes gettin all dirty and having a campfire next to the toyhauler and all that good jazz. But hey no worries its kinda the same here right? Really hot and sweaty all day and i get home at night with a wet backpack and a dirty shirt from my sweat ! haha.. ITs been getting really hot here lately .. MArch and April an a tad bit of may are the hottest parts of the year here. ive been puting on suncreen all this week to keep from burnin.. but its hard to put it on in the mornings cause the smell reminds me off all the good times at the beach with family and friends!! haha

Thats good for ryan that hes reading a lot better and pushin himself to do it! Hope rachels play is going well (if she sstill doing it)
HMMM soo jordan has a girlfriend now??! is it official or is it kinda how he was with the other one??

no too much is new here.. alot of people are running out of water cause of the season. Everyones wells are drying up. The attendance in the church is going downhil for some reason.. dont know why but thats not too good. We have 2 baptisms this month and we are looking to have 4 more on saturday. im feeling really good actually.. For about a week up until yesterday i was feeling kinda sick and had diheria. but im feeling really goood today and overall just feel way better. I think part of the problem is taht my compa likes to eat at night. at 830 at night and right after taht we go to bed at 1030. The food doesnt get digested good and i am growing a big pansa (gut)... welll aaron might be right about the muscle thing. When i get back im not gonna be as muscly as him i dont think..... welll here is my spiritual experience of the week for ya... its in spanish so have dad translate it!!! :)

Basically i was guided by the spirit in the instant that i needed the help of the lord. If i wasnt in tune with the spirit i wouldnt have spoken well at all and i woundt have been guided in my words and my thoughts as i spoke. The Lord really has shown me jsut how well i am at speaking spanish throught taht experience.

WEll g2g.. love you all so much!!!

ps no i havent got that package yet.. its probably in the office. And it would be best to send all packages to the office not to the city that im in at the time... Love yall thank you mucho!

Wow President Fraatz really said that about me? hmmmm I'll have to believe it cause it makes me feel good about my self and my improvements in the work and the spanish. To answer your question about the heat, yes, it is always hot like that. ALWAYS. but sometimes there is a pretty good breeze off the coast or sometimes some nice clouds but still its hot haha..

Thats good jordan is leaning towards BYU. hmm I still haven't gotten that package with cds and cookies in it. I hope they still taste good when it gets here haha or when I go to managua to pick it up. No worries theres not much more that I need. Im still enjoying the last package that you sent me witm mnms and smarites and all.

anyways the last week my comp and I did splits 3 days straight. Everytime we go to do spilts I'm a little bit scared to go because I feel like im not good enough to teach or speak with out my compa. we do the splits anyways and I end up having a lot of success and i really feel good about my abilities to teach the gospel. The Lord really does work side by side with us and really sends his spirit to guide us every day in his work. he truly ¨goes before our face¨ and his angels are ¨round about us to bear us up¨ This weekend we baptized the daughter of the person that washes our clothes. On the way to the baptism we found her cousin and she went to see the baptism. After seeing the service and the baptismal ordinance and feeling the spirit that was so strongly present, she decided that she wantd to be baptized. We now are teaching and preparing her to be baptized too. There truly are many people prepared here and in the whole world. All it takes is a touch of the Spirit to change the heart of the person.

Well thank you mucho for everything mom dad and family. Thanks much for your love and support for me and for other missionaries too. Keep working hard in the missionary work up there!

Love elder Thorpe :)

February 28, 2010

Hey hey family! hows it going in Costa Rica mom and dad?? you didnt tell me about this trip you´re taking! lol.. SO your eating pretty much exactly like me... lunch breakfast and dinner are red beans, rice, pollo! Ya there is a bit of a difference in the way people speak here for sure. they dont like to add the s at the end of words so sometimes its hard to tell if they mean it plurally or not. Im pretty jealous but im here in bluefields on the coast too.. i get to enjoy the cool coast air (sometimes) and see the beach and the water. It would be nice to swim but ahhh we cant haha..

WEll i hope that its going great with all of the fiends in Costa! MY compainions are really thankfull for the awesome package that you sent me! they are always askin for more candy and more carne seca haha. Well that is good that jordan is starting to lean more towards the BYU. it really would be better off for him the the long run and in the preparation for the mision too.

I heard about the earthquake. . 8.8 on the rictor scale wow thats really scary.. we were teaching some lessons and people ahd the news on and we saw a bit of the damage that was done.. i hope there arent big faults here in nicaragua

WEll my stomach is doing alrigght .. I was feelin sick a bit but im feelin better now no worries. Dont worry about the white t shirts. The sister taht washes them bleaches them out really good and theres no problems.

All is going really well here. We have placed a lot of baptismal dates this last week to prepare for march. We are working really hard and trying to unite families right now. We are reactivating some less actives and teaching the daughter and her two children that never got baptized. WE taught lesson 1 about the restoration really clearly and watched the restoration. The spirit was really strong and we were able to resolve some of her previous doubts about the book of mormon.
Just to testify to you the power and help the the Lord gives to his missionaries is obvious in every day. When we get up and follow all the rules of the mornin like starting our studies at 8 and 9 instead of starting late beacuse of the shower or wat not the spirit is really with me the whole day. IM able to teach and testify and talk more clearly. When we dont study well or not at all i really feel that im not progressing at all and wehn i speak it isnt fluent. Im really grateful to be serving the lord and i have learnd that obedience really is the key. IF we want to achieve anything we have to be obedient to the commandments of the lord..

well g2g Love you all!!!!

February 21, 2010

So this weekend we baptized 2 people. One of the was a teen with 14 years and i baptized him. IT was really special for me beacuse after i baptized him i asked him how he felt.. He didnt explain it but he said he felt something. AFter we changd i asked him agian and he explaind that he felt a great weight was released from him. I really felt the spirit once he said it and then i testified of the purpose of baptism how it really does clean a person and how Our savior Jesus Christ takes away all of uor stains and sins through the baptism. It was a really strong spirit that i felt and i know he was feelign it too.

Sounds like everythings doing good up there in the states.. GO USA!! haha right now is the slam dunk contest too right?? lol anyways i cant believe jimmy is done with his mission and even crazier is that im 5 months in.... wow... so im doing good here in good shape and the spanish is really going well sometimes i feel like i suck at it but really i just need to look back at all the blessings of the lord and realise that its a process that takes a while longer than i want lol... The mission is going good but we havnt had baptisms in 2 weeeks. next week we have some planned and i really hope all goes well so we can baptize them. I feel like sometimes i dont say the right words to help the people the way they need the help but im trying everyday to better my teachings and my questiions..
